Storage for Web 2.0 Consumers

Major storage vendors like EMC, Iron Mountain and Seagate Technologies are increasingly looking for opportunities to get into the fray of Web 2.0, but not in the ways that you’d anticipate. They’re quickly purchasing online storage solution providers geared for consumers and SMB’s.

“Consumers just have the mind-set that they’re willing to store their data somewhere other than their homes,” Bob Laliberte, analyst at Milford, Mass.-based Enterprise Strategy Group said. “At this point [users of] YouTube and Facebook and all those Web 2.0 applications are pretty comfortable with fact that data resides somewhere else. It’s a big cultural shift.”
