Industrial Marketing Goes Online

June 21, 2007 – 8:13 am

Companies in the industrial sector worldwide are spending more on marketing and allocating a greater portion of their budgets to online marketing, according to GlobalSpec’s “2007 Industrial Marketing Trends Survey.”

Over six in 10 respondents said online marketing would get more of their marketing budgets in 2007 than in 2006, and 37% said they would spend at least a third of their marketing budgets online.

GlobalSpec said its previous surveys revealed that 91% of engineers used the Internet to find components and suppliers, and that 45% spent more than six hours every week online for work-related purposes.

Asked about 2007 marketing challenges, most respondents indicated they needed to find new customers in both new and familiar markets while controlling budget expenditures.

Fewer than 10% of respondents expected to increase spending on blogs and podcasts in 2007.
