Google’s Knol Experiment…Is it Like Squidoo?
December 27, 2007 – 12:56 pmAccording to the official Google Blog, Google is exploring ways to “help people share their knowledge.”
The platform, called Knol, is a blend of blogging and Wikipedia functionality. The “Knols” or kernels of knowlege, are tied directly to their authors… people who are willing to put their names and reputation on the line behind what they’re writing. This is especially clear in the screenshot of Knol:
Google has already demonstrated its prowess in creating text content management with Blogger, image content management with Picasa, and video with YouTube and Google Video. Will Knol be the next content killer?
It will have to compete with Squidoo. Squidoo was created by Seth Godin, as a way for virtually anyone to share their passions, interest, tips and tricks. With the variety of plugins available for Squidoo, you can earn royalties for charity, drive traffic to your site, generate new leads and more. There are already 250,000+ lenses on Squidoo, so Google may have some catching up to do.
